How to Paint Tropical Mermaid Nails That’ll Go With Any Summer Outfit

What would I give if I could live out in the water?

A fair bit, actually! Ariel from The Little Mermaid has always been my favorite Disney princess. She lives my dream of being a redhead, and she has the fierceness and dedication to match. Even better, the songs from her movie are so catchy. I spent many, many hours as a child watching both The Little Mermaid and its sequel, Return to the Sea. Playing the Kingdom Hearts video games, Ariel’s world is my favorite; KH1 had me fighting some cool enemies while being a MERMAN, and in KH2, even though all I could really do was play some musical minigames, I spent more time in Atlantica than any other world.

As an adult, I still have my deep love for Ariel and mermaids. I own more than one mermaid tail blanket (and they are SO warm); I use a “Mermaid at heart” mug, complete with mermaid scale decorations, at work; and I’ve spent the better part of my 18+ life dyeing my hair red. While my reasons for going red are not 100% about becoming more like a mermaid, I do go around the house singing “Part of Your World” after every redye (which ends up being more often than my family would like). Unfortunately, the similarity in hair color does not come with a similarity in singing ability, but that has yet to stop me.

The next step in my transformation: mermaid nails! I love how quick and easy they are to do, especially with my hectic schedule. While at my current age, I may get a couple more looks for wearing my Little Mermaid cardigan and necklace, adding some scales to my manicure is a more subtle way for me to keep my mermaid flair as I go through work and grad school. Pick a shimmery nail polish, apply the stencil sticker and scale colors . . . and ta-dah! These nails make my landlubber life all the more enjoyable, especially on the days when it’s too cold for the beach.

While I know I’ll never actually get to be a mermaid, I still find myself drawn back to The Little Mermaid. The joy that comes from singing along to the soundtrack and sprinkling mermaid decor into my everyday life will hopefully never fade. And while I’m stuck walking around on my feet, my heart will always remain under the sea.
